When to travel
Mozambique is enjoyable to travel to all year round.
In the South Hemisphere, seasons are opposite to European and North America ones. We do refer to Southern African seasons in the website.
Winter, the dry and coolest season in Mozambique goes from April /May to October /November. Temperatures range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius and can be cooler along the coast and inland. Skies are usually pure blue.
Summer, the hot and rainy season, goes from November to March. Summers are humid to very humid in the north. Temperatures range from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius. The North and center of the country got more rainfalls than the rest of the country. Average rain in Maputo is 750 mm per year while the North and center can get in between 1.800 to 2.200 mm. Mozambique can alternate several years of drought with years of heavy precipitations. Some roads might be off access in summer.
April to November is the best time to visit national parks and get the best of wildlife viewing.
November to February is the best season for bird watching. February being best to observe migratory birds. Mozambique censes over 600 bird species.
Whales’ watching is at its best from May to September.
